Why do the IT Team at Battersea need a volunteer?
The Battersea IT Team consists of skilled and experienced individuals who manage the IT infrastructure and support staff with their issues, ensuring that systems are up-to-date and working smoothly, that reported issues are dealt efficiently and working on organisation wide projects to ensure that staff are able to support the dogs and cats in our care.
We are looking for an IT Volunteer who has got an interest in IT, who is approachable and has minimal experience in troubleshooting. This role will include assisting the team with preparing and maintaining hardware devices such as laptops, computers and meeting room equipment, keeping track of the IT assets, supporting new staff with hardware setup, creating useful and simple guides for end users and providing additional support to the team.
What would I be doing as an IT Volunteer?
• Preparing and maintaining hardware devices (Eg. Ensuring equipment is up to date and ready to be placed back into stock, going through equipment to ensure it is in working order)
• Reviewing and updating end user documentation (Eg. Review and write up simple troubleshooting documentation for users)
• Updating information in inventory management
• Providing additional support to the team on tasks/projects, if suitable (Eg. Assisting with meeting room support, office moves, admin assistance on tasks/projects, assistance on physical device installations)
• Assisting users on basic issues (Eg. Basic IT troubleshooting such as the operating system is up to date, physical hardware replacement such as a monitor replacement)
What skills and experience will I need to do this role?
• Ability to use a computer efficiently
• Competency with the Microsoft suite such as Excel and SharePoint
• Good verbal and written communication skills to support colleagues seeking support with IT issues
• Ability to work independently and within a team, with guidance from a volunteer mentor
• Good attention to detail and time management
What skills will I gain?
• Systems – learn a wide range of systems that IT manage
• Hardware setup skills – gaining experience working with multiple devices
• Networking basics – learning about WiFi and switches
• Cybersecurity awareness – understanding phishing, data protection and password safety
• Teamwork – working within the IT team and other teams
Where and when would I be volunteering?
Battersea Dogs and Cats Home, Battersea, London, SW8 4AA
We are looking for someone to volunteer 2 weekdays a week, with volunteering shifts ranging from 8am to 5pm (8-4 or 9-5)
We are looking for someone who can commit to volunteer for a minimum of 6-months, with the hope that you'd wish to volunteer for longer
