Why do the Compliance Team at Battersea need a volunteer?
Our valued supporters help Battersea care for thousands of vulnerable, lost, and abandoned dogs and cats every year. We have made a promise to our supporters to regularly monitor the activities and compliance of all fundraising agencies we work with to ensure they are representing Battersea appropriately. For our telemarketing agencies, we do this through call monitoring. That is, we listen to a proportion of the calls they make to ensure standards remain high. This is where you can help!
We need someone to listen to those calls and provide feedback on the quality and check that our fundraisers are complying with the relevant rules set out in the Fundraising Regulator’s Code of Fundraising Practice. Every call is different, and you will get to hear from our dedicated supporters first hand why they love Battersea and provide us with such generous support.
What would I be doing?
• Listening to a variety of fundraising and administration calls related to our regular giving campaigns, Paw Draw lottery and Superdraw raffle.
• Filling out a feedback form for each call noting any positive or negative feedback and signposting any fundraisers who may warrant a reward for an outstanding call.
• Liaising closely with our Compliance Monitoring team raising any concerns you have about the quality of the calls.
• Signposting any trends you spot relating to quality or compliance issues.
What skills and experience would be useful?
• Good computer literacy and Microsoft Office skills.
• Excellent listening skills.
• Excellent attention to detail.
• Ability to work at speed and independently, with expert support and guidance from the team.
• Understanding of the importance of confidentiality.
What skills will I gain?
We will provide you with all the training you need to carry out this role. This includes training on data protection, our different fundraising campaigns, how to carry out call monitoring including listening to different calls, how to fill in the feedback forms and, other things to look out for (e.g. trend spotting).
You will have ongoing support from the Compliance Monitoring team who you will be working closely with. You will also gain:
• Experience working in a busy, friendly office.
• Understanding of charity fundraising and fundraising compliance.
• Experience working in an animal welfare organisation / large charity.
Where and when would I be volunteering?
The role is based in our Head Office at Battersea Dogs & Cats Home, 4 Battersea Park Road, London, SW8 4AA.
Our call monitoring audio files are made available every Wednesday morning for calls made the week before. We therefore need someone that can Volunteer Wednesday afternoon and/or Thursday, for on average 5 hours per week (this will vary throughout the year depending on busier months). Our normal office working hours are 9am to 5pm.
This is an ongoing role, but we would ask you to commit to a minimum of 6 months. We are sure you will love it and will want to stay longer.
