Purpose of the role
This volunteer role at Battersea Brands Hatch, Kent - TN15 7HH - provides vital support to the cattery staff and makes a difference to the lives of the thousands of cats who pass through our doors each year helping them in their journey to reach their new homes.
* Please note you must be available to attend one of our 'Online Information and Group Recruitment' sessions either on Wednesday 24th May 10:30am - 1:30pm OR Sunday 28th May 10:30am - 1:30pm in addition to our 'Onsite Induction Day' on Tuesday 30th May 9:30am - 3:45pm at our Brands Hatch site - Crowhurst Lane, TN15 7HH - if you wish to progress with your application. Unfortunately, we do not have capacity to change these recruitment sessions. *
What would I be doing?
- Cleaning of pens, communal areas and items within the pens (litter trays, food bowls, toys etc.)
- Assisting with laundry and feeding
- Basic grooming
- Spending time with cats in their pens, using enrichment techniques to stimulate mental activity and playing constructive games
- Writing behavioural observations
What skills and experience would be useful for this role?
- Cat experience, either having worked with or owned cats
- Confidence with dealing with cats of all ages and temperaments
- Happy to work alone, on a one-to-one basis with the cats
- Fit and mobile in order to kneel, crouch or sit on the floor to interact with cats & undertake cleaning duties in confined pens
What support and training is provided?
All volunteers receive on the job training and mentoring to enable them to use consistent methods when approaching and handling the animals.
Time Commitment
The role is on-going and for a minimum of three/four hours a week, on the same day each week: either between 8:30am-12:30pm, or 1:30pm - 4:30pm. We ask for a minimum 6 month commitment.
