Why does the Marketing & Communications Department at Battersea need a volunteer?  
The Digital Marketing Administration Volunteer will support the work of the Performance Marketing team, the Digital Products team and the Digital Engagement team, supporting in conducting both competitor and wider landscape research to identify trends and opportunities that inspire upcoming campaigns and webpage developments, allowing us to optimise our work and ultimately help more cats and dogs.   
The Performance Marketing team is responsible for using paid digital advertising to reach audiences with targeted digital content that supports our organisational strategy and drives specific actions. Specifically, we run paid ads across social, search and display placements.  
The Digital Products team are Product Owners for Battersea's suite of digital products, including the Battersea Website. We maintain, build and optimise customer-facing digital products and journeys which meet user needs and organisational goals. 
The Digital Engagement team is responsible for email marketing, driving campaign awareness and regular Battersea updates via our newsletter series, alongside the management of our organic social channels and digital content creation. 
What would I be doing? 
- Supporting in the compiling of a monthly competitor review report to be circulated to various organisation stakeholders (Commentary and insights to be added by Specialists). This includes:  
  > Using Meta Ads Library & Google Transparency Centre to conduct competitor research, searching for and collating paid ad screenshots/screen recordings into a PowerPoint template. 
  > Identifying any creative trends which may inform Battersea’s future ad creative development. 
  > Conducting research across competitor websites and digital products to identify new features, trends and best practice examples, searching for and collating screenshots into a PowerPoint template.  
  > Conducting competitor research across competitor email marketing campaigns, searching for and collating screenshots into a PowerPoint template.  
  > Conducting competitor research across competitor social media pages, recording the types of content posted across platforms, e.g. Facebook, Instagram & TikTok. 
- Support with collating keyword research reports to support webpage developments (SEO). 
- Repurposing press releases into news articles to go onto the website. 
- Assisting with administrative duties when, and if, required. 
 
What skills and experience would be useful? 
- Good organisational skills. 
- Good communication skills. 
- Be able to demonstrate a good level of IT literacy, particularly in Office 365 products including PowerPoint, Word, Excel, Teams and Outlook.  
- Attention to detail  
- Being pro-active and can work effectively within a team and with internal stakeholders. 
- Ability to work on your own and using initiative to solve problems is beneficial (alongside the support of the Volunteer Mentor). 
- Awareness of the other charities functioning within the sector is also beneficial.  
Induction & Skills Gained:
All volunteers will have an induction with the volunteering team, and then a role related induction with the team they’re joining. 
Induction will include:  
- Overview of team in general and specific roles and tasks 
- Introduction to performance marketing, digital products and digital engagement processes 
- Introduction to Meta Ads Manager and Meta Ads Library 
- Introduction to Google Ads Manager and Google Transparency Centre 
- Introduction into website analytics tools 
- Introduction into website best practice and SEO basics 
- Introduction into email marketing best practices  
- Introduction into social media best practices 
What skills will I gain? 
- Experience working in a busy, friendly office.  
- Experience working in an animal welfare organisation / large charity. 
- Development of administrative skills. 
- Introduction to digital marketing. More specifically, performance marketing, email marketing, social media marketing, and website analysis/best practice.  
- Experience using Meta & Google Ad tools and resources. 
- Experience using website analytics tools. 
- Introduction into website best practice and SEO basics. 
- Introduction into email marketing best practices. 
- Introduction into social media best practices. 
 
Where and when would I be volunteering? 
Based at our London centre - Battersea Dogs and Cats Home, 4 Battersea Park Road, SW8 4AA.
- Minimum of 1 day a week (Monday-Thursday)  
- Time to be split between supporting the 3 teams as required.  
- 7 hours + 1 hour lunch break, core office hours at 10am-4pm. 
- This volunteer position will start as 6-month trial, with the potential of becoming a permanent volunteer role.
